Solve : Unpartitioning hard drive in xp?

Answer»

My computer's hard drive is partitioned into C: (OS & programs) and D:(empty). How can I join both drives to have just the C: drive? While installing Windows ONE Care I got a message about low disk space and would like to join C: & D: into one drive(C:).The system is FAT,can I convert to NTSF also?
Thanks for any and all input,LouYou will either need to backup your data and create partitions like you wish and reload Windows,or USE some third party tool like Partition  Magic, etc. You can convert a drive to NTFS using either of those methods. You can do this part WITHIN XP to your current drive, but it will not solve your other problems.Thank you,GUsually, you can install programs on D, rather than C.  Thought I'd mention this in case you did not know.   This could preclude the need to combine the two partitions.Yes SOY I did know, but thanks. Yes Soy I did know, but thanks.
So then, why the concern about having the two partitions instead of one?  Many people prefer to have a partitioned drive.  By keeping your data files on a non-OS partition, you won't lose your data if you ever have to format your OS partition and reinstall the OS.

How large is each partition?  How are you currently using them?  Is your My Documents folder on C?  You can move that to D.  I guess just being used to having everything on C: drive.Yes everything is on C: drive, and I am concerned about moving stuff AROUND(access later).I've decided to follow previous advice & backup and reinstall. Thanks,Lou
