Do you have MS Office installed on this machine ? ? Any Norton products ? ?Sorry I haven't been around for a while, have been away from the computer If I'm honest I cannot REMEMBER WHETHER I did put in the CD for the motherboard, will have to try and find that I do have MS Office on this machine And I do not have any Norton products, I personally don't like them. How might MS Office make a difference may I ask? Some Office apps pre-load themselves to a ready state. This can slow down the boot times...If you're on dialup and IE is set to 'never dial a connection' as mine is then Automatic Windows Update will do this to you. It sits there looking to find a connection via IE that will never come, I set mine to disabled and update manually a week after Update Tuesday to be sure Microsoft has no issues. I would think auto update would be the default setting and as it happened after a new install of windows... well. The settings can be changed in 'services', you could prowl around in services anyway you never know, just be careful what you do. Blackviper has both the defaults and the tweaks if you're unsure.
