If so you more than likely need to upgrade your BIOSWhy?Quote from: Chrisxs5 on May 29, 2009, 08:27:27 AM Did you upgrade the RAM? If so you more than likely need to upgrade your BIOS. What kind of computer do you have? I've never seen this either...the BIOS recognises new RAM. If it doesn't then it's either the wrong RAM or faulty. Some makes and models (mainly Dell, but others as well) Bios do not recognize new memory. It is weird but it does happen. Lets look at the Dells for just a second; their A04 Bios specifically will bluescreen during the installation of an OS if you have updated your memory. When you load up their newest A12 Bios the OS will load up without error. When running diagnostics on the memory everything always appears fine becuase there is nothing wrong with the memory. On some computers you can install the memory on a working OS and it will work fine until you try to install a new OS. When I FIRST ran across this problem it took me weeks to figure out what was wrong and then I found to update the Bios and that fixed it. But it has appeared to more common than one would think. I have fixed computers that others have called dead, just by upgrading the Bios.Hi! When you said you upgraded to Vista, did you mean that you bought a new computer with Vista on it or that you had an existing computer and installed Vista on it. If you bought a new computer with Vista installed on it and it's still under warranty, I'd be pretty hesitant to go back to XP. I was told by Dell about 2 MONTHS ago when I bought a computer from them in the outlet store preloaded with Vista that changing the OS would void my warranty. It may make no difference to you or you might already know about this, but figured it couldn't hurt to bring it. P.S. I absolutely despise Vista. I will probably reinstall Win XP the day my warranty expires. |
