Answer» Listen Guys, I have this problem. I have recently upgraded to Win 7 and still trying to find may way.
A couple of days ago, as I was closing down my machine, a message appeared telling me that it was installing upgrades 45 in total, so I let it run and it eventually closed down.
When I booted up the next day, I had the message that some upgrades were being installed and not to close down. After a period, my machine fully booted up.
I have had this same 'rigmarole now every day since?
I have used System Restore today, to try and get out of this sequence, but the problem persists??
I have no idea what 'updates' are being installed or from where?
How can I get to find out what is going on and to control my updates please?
Regards Ivan TeagueHere is one thing you can try.
Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore and delete the DataStore.edb file. You probably need to boot to safe mode first before you can delete it.
Datastore.edb file, AFAIK, is to let Windows update figure out what updates your computer still need that's available to you and yes, it's safe to delete. I've done it a few times. After you delete, reboot normally and go to windows update and have it check for updates again.
Maybe, after doing that, you'll be on your way again. (I was thinking maybe you needed to CLEAR that edb file out, 'cuz somehow it seems windows KEEP thinking the update installations were not done or were not successfully done) Do a manual windows update and see what it says needs to be installed. If it's been through this several times, there should only be one or two updates pending. Those will most likely be the ones that are causing the problems and will make troubleshooting a bit easier if we know what they are.Quote from: michaewlewis on September 27, 2010, 05:09:11 PM Do a manual windows update and see what it says needs to be installed. \ I agree. Normally you can find updates that you installed. You Could always manually uninstall your updates but if your system restore DOESNT fix the problem then jee.
Anyway you can post more details about your computer?Guys ..... my problem is solved and I thank all of you for your response here!
I'll say one thing 'Bates' has really improved facilities on Win 7. A heck of a lot of stuff can be solved, if one types in the 'Search' commodity. In so far as 'upgrades' are concerned, a whole menu appears which gives one all the options one needs and I have sorted my problem out from here.
I GUESS, like many others, I automatically think solutions are complicated, many are not with this new O. S. I am getting more and more PLEASED with it guys!
Thanx again buddies!
