I am trying to upgrade my system OS from windows 98 to windows xp home edition. My questions REALLY revolve around data transfer b/w the two OS systems. I don't want to lose any files. I also want to know if upgrading the OS will cause problems with any of the programs that are installed on my current system (programs preinstalled when the computer was bought), if those programs will also transfer, and what I can do if they won't transfer. This is a christmas present for my mom, and it's her puter and data, so I don't want to screw it up!!! PLEASE HELP!!!An upgrade will keep intact your data and programs.

Double check how much RAM and HDD space she's got.You don't have much time until Christmas. It may or may not working because some old programs don't work with the new OS. I have many old programs worked with Win9X but it didn't work on Windows XP Home Edition. I contacted vendors, they told me to buy a new VERSION.
