Solve : Upgrading to Vista??

Answer»

I have run the Vista compatibility test on my machine and I do seem to have the minimum requirements. But does anyone know if it WOULD run efficiently based on the machine specs.

Also, would I be able to use the Aero 3D feature? I know my graphics card is the minimum required to run Vista but not sure about it running Aero 3D. Does Aero 3D use DirectX10?

Specs.

Intel PIII 933MHz
512MB ram
160gb hard drive
ATI radeon 9550

Thanks.I'd recommend 1GB of RAM and possibly a faster CPU.
See here for more information - the upgrade advisor will TELL you what you need to know.OK, but I guess I'm trying to figure out what kind of performance I'll get with my current machine as it does meet the minimum requirements. Also, that site doesn't mention if Aero 3D uses DirectX10 cards? You will get good performance as Calum says with 1G of RAM...but running Aero ---not so hot.that site doesn't mention if Aero 3D uses DirectX10 cards? << ??

Aero 3D should run without any x10 video card..... it's just the more ram
minimum 1 gig will make it sing better

below* Thanks Calum, thats what i was trying to say Quote from: delluser07 on June 12, 2007, 09:50:07 AM

The upgrade advisor will tell you how well Vista will run, or at least what version it will run.
And Aero does not need a DX10 card at all.I'll install Vista (probably upgrade RAM) and try to dual-boot with my current XP SP2 installation. I've READ some programs/games do not work with Vista.

Thanks! That's a good idea, then you get the best of each OS.
Think about whether you need Vista first though, otherwise you might be wasting your money.
