Solve : USB driver does not start (Win 2000)?

Answer»

Windows 2000 SP4
When the system starts, it will not start the USB driver (ALi PCI to USB Open Host controller): yellow exclamation mark in configuration-system-hardware.
A solution is to have the system re-install the driver automatically. That works fine and the connected peripherals (printer and scanner) work OK. But after system switch-off, the problem re-appears.

I have looked in the services but cannot find anything appropriate.
Any suggestions?

Motherboard is MSI MS-5169; CPU is AMD K6-2
Chipset is van ULi Electronics: ULi/ALi M1541 ALADDIN5 (North: ULi/ALi M1541; SOUTH ULi/ALi M1533/1535/1543)

Have you got Service Pack 2 installed?

If you haven't, that is most likely your problem. ASSUMING you are using Windows XP.Notice he's running Windows 2000 Pro SP4

Try booting into SafeMode, go to Device Manager & delete the drivers for the USB device that's coming up the the yellow dot-exclaimation point, then reboot. Windoze should reinstall the drivers.

What happens?

Same thing; it nicely installs the drivers and EVERYTHING works, but upon re-start the problem is back.

Original drivers were the ones on the system DISC; the replacement drivers came from the manufacturers website but may have been the same ones ....Quote

No I meant the indication that the device is not active. When you press start- configuration- system- hardware- devices. When you then select properties, it says that the service has not been started.Quote

With some MBoard's the drivers need to be installed in a certain order...i would re-install the MBoard drivers.

Is the box that allows the PC to turn off the device to save power tagged?
