XP home SP2...
We just got this mouse, its a microsoft compact optical mouse, we were using a PS2 rollerball before and the ball retaining piece broke somehow (i wasnt using it)..
it works fine until the computer goes to sleep. then it wont wake up the computer, and if you use the keyboard, the mouse still doesnt work. the light in the mouse isnt on and using the scroll wheel or buttons doesnt work either. it doesnt work unless you restart the computer
Ive made sure the Device mgr and mouse properties button is checked to allow the mouse to wake the computer up, and ive also tried unchecking the box that lets the USB go to sleep to save power. the speakers are also plugged into the usb, ive found, but they still work when the mouse doesnt.
ive searched the site, the microsoft KB and the web and all ive come up with is that its a problem solved by sp2.
any help appreciated. Will the mouse work if you just unplug it and replug it in without re-booting ?yeap, i tried that initially, and i also tried plugging it into a different usb slot. no luck.
also, ive noticed that since i unchecked the box that allows the computer to turn off the usb to save power, it doesnt happen EVERY time. either that or its just that the computer has to sleep longer before it will happen.
EDIT: after TALKING with some other users of this computer, its not time related, but it does seem to be intermittent now...
EDIT X2: Ive also done the mouse troubleshooter including uninstalling and reinstalling the driver.hmm.. nothing?
maybe this is in the wrong section...Go and buy a USB to PS2 adaptor and plug the mouse into your PS2 port. I's not worth the stress of fooling around with it. It's possible it is in fact the mouse, If it's that new return it for another one and see,,,but a restart fixes it. if removing the power unfreezes it, like logic lock or something, then unplugging it should have also done the trick, yea?Quote from: patio on August 28, 2007, 09:45:24 PM It's possible it is in fact the mouse, If it's that new return it for another one and see,,,
If you really want it to stop, other than getting a replacement mouse you could change your power settings so your computer won't go into standby mode. However I would recommend replacing the mouse.good stuff. ill go with the audience, Regis, and replace the mouse.
I'll let you guys know what happens also check the "CONTROL Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager/ Universal Serial Bus Controllers/Root Hubs /Power management
"Allow the computer to turn of this device to save power"
untick this option#
if this box is ticked and the system thinks the device is not working it will be turned off
