Answer» Hi Suddenly for no reason the photo card reader that I attach to my computer via a USB does not work and it said the usb port is not recognised. I have done everything including (advice from windows) uninstalling &reuploading the usp programme; trying a windows patch, buying a new card reader (which ALSO does not work) - and trying other usb ports on the machine (doesn't work) .
However the usb ports do work with other pieces of equipment (ie mouse, keyboard ETC). Just not the card readers. And when I try the card readers on another computer they are fine!
Does anyone have any suggestions? Tara
How about USB flash drives or External hard drives? Is Windows able to detect them?Same problem with me, specially to generic brands of card readers, flash drives, etc. But if I inserted well known brands like SanDisk, Imation, Kingston, Transcend, Western Digital, Seagate, Buffalo, etc no problem
But beware of Kingston and SanDisk, there are LOTS of fake in black market. Other imitation electronic devices are made from Taiwan: "CD-R King"Well, I encountered a similar problem in the past. I would suggest checking the BIOS (press Del. or F2 during Startup). You should make sure that all USB ports are enabled as well as that USB 2.0 Mode and USB Legacy Support are enabled.
In my case, the front USB ports were not enabled for some reason, which caused all USB devices not to work when connecting them to these two ports.
