Solve : "Users" File Problem?

Answer»

Today, I took a look in my "Users" file (C:\Users). Usually, it would contain a folder for every user on the computer. This was not the CASE. When I looked in the folder today, the file for my account (the only one on the system) was missing. There are three other folders in the file [Default (hidden), Mcx1 (Does anyone know what this is?), and Public]. I know for a fact that my user file is not hidden because I have configured Windows to show hidden files. I don't THINK this affects my computer at all because I still have all of my files and I can still access them all. Also, I should ADD that when I viewed the properties of a random Word document on my desktop, the target was "C:\Users\[user name]\..." which means the computer can still access the folder. It's not a big deal, I'd just like to know what happened. I have a Dell Inspiron 530 running Vista Home Premium (if that helps with anything). Thanks in advance.Have you ever had XBox set up on this computer?
That's what the Mcx1 user is normally for.

Default (hidden) - in Vista and 7, real Administrator account is hidden by default.

Now, to check for users...
Please download Profiles by noahdfear.

* Save it to your desktop.
* Double-click profiles.exe and post its log when you reply.

Yes, I have set up Xbox on this computer before. According to the log made by profiles.exe, the user is still recognized on the computer. Here is the log.

Sorry if it appears very spaced out.
It does....LOL

I think, I can see what's wrong.

Go Start and in "Start search" type in:
regedit
Press Enter.

Navigate to:
H K E Y _ L O C A L _ M A C H I N E \ S O F T W A R E \ M i c r o s o f t \ W i n d o w s N T \ C u r r e n t V e r s i o n \ P r o f i l e L i s t \ S - 1 - 5 - 2 1 - 3 7 8 7 7 1 4 1 7 8 - 7 7 0 8 9 1 5 3 9 - 3 9 7 5 3 4 9 1 8 - 1 0 0 0
IMPORTANT! Right click on that key, click "Export". Save the file to a known location (just in case).

In right pane, you'll see S t a t e key.
Right click on it, click "Modify".
Make sure, a "tick" mark is in "Hexadecimal".
Change "Value data" to 100.
Click OK.

Exit Registry Editor.

Restart computer and see, if the issue has been solved.
After I restarted the computer, the value went back to "0". I tried it twice with no success. I don't understand why it does that.Since you have that key backed up, you may want to try to change that value to "100" again and at the same type, change R e f C o u n t value from "3" to "1".
If that won't help....I'm out of options The value of RefCount is 2, not 3.It's 3 in your log, but whatever it is, change it to "1".Both of them switched back to their previous VALUES. Unfortunately, I have no other ideas That's ok. Thanks for your help.I wish, we did better
