Solve : Very internesting memory/graphics issue?

Answer»

So let me start with this.  Ive been playing SWTOR since release.  Randomly the game would just freeze on me but the pc was still functional, so I would alt cntrl del out to end it but then noticed SWTOR.exe was eating up all my memory during the freeze. I would end process all was fine.  Well two days ago I decided to make sure there were no issues with the pc somewhere with a mem leak and ran a ton of tests, all passed.  After that I decided to run some benchmarks to see how they did. I went to run 3d mark and once it was done my desktop gui was off considerable and the PC was UNRESPONSIVE. I alt cntrl deleted out and on the blue screen where you can select options everything was completely responsive, I selected task manager, my memory was maxed again but no proccess were above 42k mem (my guess is scvhost was eating it up).  At this point though the computer became extremely unresonsive (10 min after clicking at task for it to register).  I finally try to log out after an hour of waiting to see if it would clear up and computer completely froze.  I attempted teh benchmark 5 more times all with the same RESULT.  The only thing I did notice is that as soon as the benchmark was over and the GUI became unresponsive if the first thing I did was either log off, restart, or shutdown the PC would do it with no lag at all.

That brings me to tonight, I decided to try a different benchmark program (pathmarks) to see if the same issue would be created and it was.  At this point I decided to try something, turn windows aero off and put on basic, and low and behold no more issue.

So what I know in windows basic 0 issue what so ever in Windows Aero complete shutdown.  Now I've always used Aero and originally benchmarked in Aero and never had a single issue, so this is a new problem for me at least.  So a few questions.

1. Has anyone else seen this before
2. I know there could be a few culprits, (Video card driver, Windows issue, memory issue) (I will say ive stress tested my machine and also ran every memcheck program imaginable as well as video card tests with 0 issues.) But does anyone know any tests I can throw at my pc to lock down the issue.

If anyone wants some hardware or software info Ill be glad to seen it, just given the number of possible issues I didnt want to throw out a bunch of information that could be irrelevant.

Im also attaching a pic I took with my Thunderbolt showing what my windows desktop looked like after the benchmarks.  Just to fill you in that wallpaper is full size not TILED so thats wrong, and my icons are larger than that and go top to bottom the entire left side of my screen and consist of three rows, so those are way off as well.

You can use Everest to provide the forum with a report on your hardware. It is not a diagnostic, it just TELLS what you got  in your system. Without details it is hard to guess what is going on.

I did a full report so you had all the info.

[YEAR+ old attachment deleted by admin]What he means is your dxdiag output. Just copy all that long crap here so we can help you. but on top of my head I could tell you to try to  update your graphic card driver if it wasn't done already. And regarding your performance, something tells me your graphic card is dying. If its possible you could try another one and see if you got the same problem.
