Solve : very wide program list?

Answer»

My program LIST (i.e. START-----ALL PROGRAMS) is very wide in Windows XP. It consists of three big colomns and 3rd column goes outside the screen and cannot be seen. My desktop screen resolution is set for 800x600 pixels. I want to reduce the width of this list so it can be seen without changing the resolution. So please any body help in this matter. THANXYoud just have to remove items from your Start folder to decrease the size of the list.In the display options, look at appearance go to settings then advanced. Are your fonts too big?WOW! Sounds like you've got a LOT of programs installed! If there are some that you don't need, then click start --> control panel --> add/remove programs. Delete any that you no longer need....

[glb]Flame[/glb]Go to your All Programs folder in Windows Explorer. In Win98, it's in c:\windows\start menu. In WinXP it's in c:\documents and settings\(username) somewhere.

Set up a subdirectory structure so you can reduce the size of the main Program FILES directory to show on the screen.

Why are you using 800/600, anyway? Are you using JAWS screenreader, or a small or fuzzy monitor? It do work by reducing the font size or by uninstalling some programs. Can one delete the items from the list without uninstalling that program. i think one can delete the itemby right CLICKING on that and delete. what is best resolution for a desktop 17 inch flat screen? thanxThe resolution you like best.. 1.  Yes.
2.  Yes.  You can also rename it to something shorter.
3.  Your choice.  Start with 1024x768.
Try arranging your start menu's programs group into subfolders. For example, games, work... that should split it up and reduce its size without REMOVING any shortcuts.

LCD monitors are usually designed to be used at a certain resolution (usually the highest available) so look in its manuel, but basically it's your choice.THANX ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR EXPERT OPINION. how to make subfolders in start menu program?Right-click Start button, select Explore.  Under Start Menu is your Program List. Then go into the programs folder and you'll see the contents of the programs in the start menu. Go to File > New > Folder. Call it "Work" or "Games" etc. Now simply drag the folders and shortcuts of other programs into those folders. For example, drag the Microsoft Word icon into the Work folder...THANX ONCE AGAINTry right-clicking the Start-Button and go to Task Bar and Start Menu Properties, Customise, Advanced, scroll down the list and CHECK "Scroll Programs".
