Solve : Video and buffering, erratic?

Answer»

If you are in the States AT&T is offering DSL service for 14.95 a month...

Details at their website. So far I've downloaded CCleaner and ran it.  It found lots of stuff in the registry and temp files.  It asked me if I want to back it up and I SAID no.  I got rid of PathethSv and Aolwbspd as suggested.  I didn't see a difference in the video play.  But maybe it will help the COMPUTER be less sluggish.  Next I'm working on downloading the virus protector.

I think you will be amazed at what you find. You should also run the free online scanner at www.trendmicro.com

This is NOT a substitute for proper virus protection though.Ok, well I've finally got the AVG Free downloaded and installed, and I ran it offline.  I don't know how to run it in safe mode.  It did not find anything.  I updated the AVG and ran it again and nothing came up.  I downloaded updates for Spybot and Adaware, and ran them.  I also downloaded one microsoft update and rebooted.  There are lots of other updates I haven't done with microsoft, like service pak 2, and realtech AC 97 Audio WHATEVER that is.  Plus a page of SECURITY updates.  I'll have to do that later, I've spent most of the day just doing what I did so far.

I tested a video and there's no change.  It still buffers and plays in spurts.

Thanks
Sam

Why haven't installed SP2 yet?

Because I'm doing it one thing at a time.  At this point it looks like I don't have a choice anyway, because last time I clicked on the icon on the bottom, I initially started it, then wanted to stop because I realized ALL the updates were checked and it would probably take hours.  Unfortunately I can't stop it.  When I click on it, nothing happens.  All my cursor will do is say the percentage of download.  Like, right now it's at 11 percent.  Isn't that nice??    There is no box that comes up now, it's just a little taskbar icon.  I can't right click or left click on it.  I tried rebooting, but the darn thing keeps downloading.  And right now, it's slowing down my whole system, and I can't access all my email.  Oh gee, it's at 12 percent now.

By the way, can I delete the install icons on my desktop for CCleaner and AVG?  Or at least move them to a file?  Do they need to be on the desktop?

Thanks,
Frustrated in Florida13 percent yet?  LOL  For someone on dialup, this would be the way to go: Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD.

Well, I'm at 19 percent now.  It's almost 11pm here.

I'm glad to hear, at least that I can delete those other files on the desktop.  Gonna do that now.
