You should also run the free online scanner at www.trendmicro.com This is NOT a substitute for proper virus protection though.Ok, well I've finally got the AVG Free downloaded and installed, and I ran it offline. I don't know how to run it in safe mode. It did not find anything. I updated the AVG and ran it again and nothing came up. I downloaded updates for Spybot and Adaware, and ran them. I also downloaded one microsoft update and rebooted. There are lots of other updates I haven't done with microsoft, like service pak 2, and realtech AC 97 Audio WHATEVER that is. Plus a page of SECURITY updates. I'll have to do that later, I've spent most of the day just doing what I did so far. I tested a video and there's no change. It still buffers and plays in spurts. I'm glad to hear, at least that I can delete those other files on the desktop. Gonna do that now.
