You need to install videocard drivers.

Do you remember the name of the videocard you are using?there is a video card that the computer  autodetected and it was a standard vga card(somewhere around there).

It then did not fully detect it. That is why it is only offering you very basic choices.

If you do the following:

1. Start
2. Run
3. type DXDIAG
4. Monitor tab

What name is displayed?
LOOK under the Audio tab as well to see if a name is displayed.

Chances are that if neither work properly, no software on your computer can TELL what is installed.

Have you still got the items that BELONG to your video and sound card? Or do you perhaps recall their names? Quote

On second thought, Everest  Home Edition apparantly can.im trying the everest home edition thing. Before i went in to ms dos prompt  and put down debug.then i wrote
-d c000:0060

Then i got info about my video DRIVER and it said something like ibm..vga campitable.  And also when i restarted the computer i pressed the  pause/break  button  on the keyboard and i got other info about my video driver but the only thing it said was ega/vga. When i went into run and and wrote dxdiag i only got info on the video adapter i was using which is standard pci adapter(vga).   IBM®  F1
IBM E-pro Laptop  F2
IBM PS/2®  CTRL+ALT+INS after CTRL+ALT+DEL
IBM Thinkpad® (newer)  Windows: Programs-Thinkpad CFG.
bios keys..........it will tell you what video /s
ound you have..

If the videocard is onboard, you should visit the CHIPSET's manufacturer website.

However, install the utility I provided you with first as it can remove many doubts.
