My sisters computer is having problems, i know its a virus but im not sure what to do. I scanned it with norton antivirus 2005 and it found 90 viruss, it got rid of all but 5 which keep coming back. The 5 are all noted to be adaware. The virus wont let me run liveupdate, go to nortons website, or go to any other website that has to do with removing virii. What can i do to fix this prob?Get adware/spyware removers. Free good ones are SpyBot search & Destroy and Lavasofts, Ad-Aware Personal. They are both free. I don't remember the sites for them but just google it, it will usually be the first hit.If there are files you can not remove, scan in safemode.OK well i had al those progs and i RAN everything in safe mode, adaware found and deleted 132 items and seek and destroy found about 15 of them and killed them, norton now says that there are no viruss when i run it in safe mode. I think that whatever it is is new and has hijacked the windows host files, when i run liveupdate it says
"LU1860: LiveUpdate has detected a potential security compromise on your computer: ONE or more entries for Symantec LiveUpdate servers exist in your Windows hosts files.

A malicious entry in your hosts files could prevent LiveUpdate from retrieving updates for your Symantec products, including anti-virus updates. Generally, Symantec LiveUpdate server entries should not appear in your Windows hosts files." But when i hit the button to get rid of the host files it wont. What shout i do? I SUSPECT a gao bot viruschgoblkhawksfan......For what it's worth I dont believe its a hijacker..........Have a read ..........

This is your problem and the resolution is contained there as well .....If you are having trouble following the instructions , I would suggest you contact symantec.

dl65  well ive been tryig everything from the site you gave me to no avail, and norton wont pick whatever it is up. Its got to be somekind of viru tahts canged the windows host files, im pretty much stuck now. ? on line scan trend micro....housecall program....you need to disable system restore and then run any virus scans.....and sometimes it pay to disconnect from the net when scanning?Try going to mcafee.com , and run a virus scan off of their website.

[glb]Flame[/glb] chgoblkhawksfan.....Usually , when Norton or any other scanning program identifies a PEST or a virus , it will provide the location the pest or virus in. Go there and remove it .
Could you please list the items you are calling adware .
The symantec items you couldnt remove...( did you try renaming them and them removing them ).
