Solve : virus lead to pc crash?

Answer»

hi everyone,

Firstly, some background information..

I am currently using an acer 3500 laptop running windows xp home edition with norton anti-virus installed.

The other night i got a virus and followed the removal process i found in symantecs as follows..

a) disable system restore
b) scan and delete viruses
c) restart pc

however upon restarting, i am now unable to login.. it begins to log in and a few seconds later logs out. i followed the advice of a post i read here and i burnt and loaded windows recovery .iso and began to follow the instructions in the following link..

http://icrontic.com/articles/repair_windows_xp

Now when i get to the SECTION that asks me to change the directory using the CD comand it doesnt change anything, even after a couple tries.. see below..

D:\WINDOWS>CD
D:\WINDOWS
D:\WINDOWS>CD
D:\WINDOWS

[note: yes it is D: i have windows 95 installed in C: for radio dos programming software that wont work in windows xp]

UPDATE: managed to change directory using COMMAND CD D:\ however any help on this problem would still be appreciated

Sorry for the novel and Thanks in advance
There are two DOTS after "CD":
CD..
which brings you to D:\> promptahh cool thanks. thought that was just a typo..

decided to do a clean install after all about that time i think lolCool You may want to consider some FREE alternatives to Norton such as Avast or AVG...
You and you're MACHINE will both be happier as a result...
If you decide to GO down this road post back for complete instructions...
The Norton lobotomy needs to be done properly.hi patio after reading a few reviews i opted for the nod32 trial...

if you have any feedback on this it would be greatly appreciated...

if all goes well i dont mind trading a few bucks for the full system in return for a little peace of mind.

thanksAfter the NOD trial at least give one of the Free ones a go before you spend your hard earned money...
Best of LUCK.
