I have an hp computer with an lcd SCREEN. ONE day it was fine but the next day I turn on the computer and it seems its much darker. I open my brightness/ contrast controls and fix it. As I WORK a little the brightness pops up by itself and starts adjusting by itself up down.. down back to 0 or up to 100. I'd try to fix it but couple seconds or minutes later its back up playing the controls. As I am writing this post my brightness thing is up and its going up from 100 to 0 and back. Sometimes the screen just gets stuck there and i cant turn it off. I restarted my computer it wasnt dark this time but then the bright/cont screen keeps popping up adjusting by itself.. Ive scanned but it didnt find any viruses. What could this be?when you say the window is popping up, do you mean the same window that would pop up if you hit the menu button on the monitor? or are you talking about some other software on your comp? If its the same as the menu that you press on the Monitor, then that means theres a short in your monitor somewhere and you need to replace the monitorTry that monitor on another computer and try another monitor on this computer to isolate where the problem really is.Most graphics card drivers install utilities capable of changing the brightness of the display. If you're using ATI or Nvidia there should be an icon on the task bar. See if there is anything suspect in there.

When the brightness changes, is there a corrosponding change on the monitors options? For example, if your brightness is 50, and it suddenly brightens up, does the brightness stay at 50 or move?yes the window is the same one as when i press the menu on my moniter. and when it becomes duller the number goes down. and vice versa... in my task bar there was a program that had the word monitor in it... i closed it too fast to remember lol. the thing is that its always been there and there wasnt EVER a problem? I dont understand why it randomly started to do this. So far its been 5 minutes and the problem hasnt occured yet... I'm guessing that was the problem. What is this program for? Will I need it or is it just some extra thing?

SO far I think its fixed So thankyou so much!..I was wrong!!!!!!!! 10 minutes later brightness comes up and goes back to !! aaarrgghhh  when i turn it up it goes down its like someone is fighting with me from another computer but it cant be I scanned!


Maybe its something in my processes!??

i dont even bother to change it no more now it keeps popping up and its at 0 RIGHT now and its staying htere...

Whats a short? i read a post above about it being a short in my monitor?Have you tried loading into safe mode, or VGA mode. If its ok in safe mode then its a driver problemIf the actual options box for the monitor's OSD appears, it is a fault with the monitor. Quote
