Solve : Vista audio query?

Answer»

Ok, I recently started using vista and noticed that many of my games were not recegnising my sound card, a creative xfi, so I sent an e-mail to creative and they told me that it was an operating system limitation not a sound card ISSUE, though there was the alchemist program which supports some games.
So my general query is, does anyone know if microsoft intends to restor the sound compatability at a future date or not?Creative is the one dropping the ball on this one...it's their product they should have Vista drivers written for it.
I'm afraid they are passing the buck.overmind
You should go to Creative web site, and look for a new DRIVER for your sound card. What is your card model? My sound card is an XFI gamers edition (running in gaming mode) - but I already have the latest drivers for both it and the alchemist program - I was just wondering if they were extending their support for older titles, but if what patio says is right then chances are that they won't/Here is a Beta driver i found for your card...as always with BETA drivers use caution and make sure your IMPORTANT stuff is backed up...
I suggest reading the entire thread to see if it worked for others.
Another GOOD spot to check is the Forums for the specific game you are running...lot's of times they find out first about any drivers including video and audio. You may try another thing. Find your game ".exe" file (file, which starts a game). Right click on it, click on Properties, click on Compatibility tab, and, if allowed (not grayed out), put a checkmark in "Run this program in compatibility mode for": Windows XP should be listed there.patio - thank for the link, but I think I will just wait for them to finish the driver

Broni - I did not think of this line - I will try but as creative had to release a different program to allow compatability this might not work, but I will try.
