Answer» My Sister bought a laptop from well known PC supplies about 4 years ago... fully paid up and all systems GO, so to spk.
About 18 months ago the screen cracked and we couldnt afford repair, so went out and got a cheap PC running on Win XP Home, just to get us by..
And whilst doing a spring clean we've found the Genuine Vista CD that CAME with the laptop..
My Question : Can I install this onto my PC, ? and if yes... How/Where can I get Prduoct Key Code for it, as it was stuck on base of laptop which we've since thrown away..!!
This is a genuine question and will go to microsoft is that is the ANSWER...
IV'E not looked yet, but does Microsoft have a forum for this very question..??
Thanks for any replies This Disc which came with the Laptop was intended for that Laptop only. Licensing is non-transferrable although some people do it when you have a good key. This disc is useful to hold onto if you ever have a Vista computer that needs a repair installation, other than that, without its key, its useless. I have some discs for Windows 95 thru XP that the keys are lost to, and they are only good for clean installations on computers that still have their good "original keys" affixed to them, or repair installations. And some XP keys are picky and requires a phone call to microsoft to activate. Microsoft is unable to assist you if you dont have a key, however they wont mind selling you a new key for Windows 8. ok, Thanks
