Solve : VISTA RECOVERY PROBLEM (HP LAPTOP DV2500)?

Answer»

I recently ordered some recovery cd's from HP for my DV2500 laptop, I had formatted the hard DRIVE & was not able to locate the originals.

The problem I have is a "recovery attempt failed" message I get each time which pops up after about 3 hours. I've tried this 3 times now. When I click the details log everything passes except for a VIDEO log file which says failed. This machine was in for service a few months ago for a video problem in which some parts were replaced so it makes me wonder if this problem is connected to that.

I know SOMEONE posted a similar problem here last month but nothing was resolved in the messages. Would purchasing then loading a new copy of Vista solve this or would it also fail to load?

Any suggestions?

Yes, that is the most likely problem. If they didn't use identical parts then the disk wont work. The recovery disk that HP sent you will only work with the particular hardware that that computer shipped with.

You should contact HP and explain your situation. Quote from: JJ 3000 on November 08, 2009, 10:29:06 PM

What a nightmare! HP actually did the repair but I now hate Vista more than ever why make this so difficult. Vista is the worst!Linux is free.Actually it should be Dell HP that you are angry with. The problem that you had is not with MS, it was Dell HP.Quote from: Quantos on November 09, 2009, 12:32:12 AM

Thanks for the heads up, just a little late here. I think I'm off to bed.
