Answer» I have been working (unsuccessfully) on a friends computer. It's an ACER Aspire M5640 a year or so old. On May 17th it quit being qable to update. The error code from the update site is 80072 EFB. That error code refers to the update site being firewalled. I have taken the steps listed below.
I completely got rid of the non updated, 90 day expired trial version of Norton using add/delete programs, the Norton Uninstaller (twice) and finally ComboFix. I shut off the MS FIREWALL. I reset the MS firewall. I reset the parameters of the MS firewall and finally I uninstalled the MS firewall. No LOVE, so now the computer has a freshly installed MS firewall lol. I performed the following steps from various MS tech help site windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/93b6ab71-8b21-4b50-b40e-abb80eba29271033.mspx , support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836941, I don't have the link available, but I installed the latest MS update agent and also ran the system update readiness tool FOUND here: support.microsoft.com/kb/947821. I've tried other things as well but nothing is working. Can anybody help me further?Download WUFix. Double click on WUFix.bat file to run it. Vista users: right click on WUFix.bat, and click Run as Administrator. After successful run, restart computer. Thanks Bruni. I gave the computer back to my friend (unfixed lol) but I will go over sometime this week and try that. I'll let you know if it works or not. You're welcome That would be Broni Sorry. As I've gotten old my vision has deteriorated.......It's OK. I had to bug you a little Well I walked my friend through the process over the phone, directing her to here and using the link posted above. She downloaded it to desk top, right clicked it and ran as ADMIN, and rebooted. The computer crashed on restart and went to the repair option where I had her do a restore. While it is possible she did something wrong I can't see how. Have you ever had one crash after using the wufix.bat before?Never. Maybe some one time glitch. Try again.
