I have a compaq computer (not sure what type) running windows ME. The only PROBLEM is that the stupid computer isn't running. I have tried various things (checking wires and stuff like that) and it is really getting on my nerves!
The weird thing is that after about 10 seconds of jigleing, i plug the power cord back into the computer, and it starts, for all of 3 seconds. Then after those 3 seconds, it shuts back down. And sometimes, it turns back on 5 seconds after that!
I don't know what to do!

And now I can only get it to turn on for abot 2 secondsbumpWhat are you "giggling"...on the inside or OUTSIDE of the box / tried a different wall outlet / tried a different power supply / stripped the machine except for the RAM, motherboard & video card & tried BOOTING?

How could I turn this off (If I can)You can't. Its built right into the power supply to shut it down. Its really so if you have a bad power supply it won't damage anything else in your computer or cause a fire.
If this is the reason your machine is shutting off than it is time to replace the power supply.
It sounds like you have a short in your power cord. Have you tried a different one?yes... i agree with spoiler it's time for a new power supply
