Solve : what is the difference between disk types??

Answer»

Hi all,

I just GOT a usb disk and plugged it into the usb port on the BACK of the pc (not the ones on the front)

It comes up as a "basic" disk.

What is the difference between a basic disk and an "external" disk.

thanks!basic disk is attached to the pc via an ide cable........internal..the rest answers it self..// what your problem.........is just a query...and dont add to much to your pc..??no problem with your question..and i would have always..to hand a usb flashdisk...........[PORTABLE] and is far better the a mecanicial driven device...(hard-drive) when are you going the abyss..What is an external attached to the pc by?

I got an 80g basic for $100. Much more space and less money than a flash, don't you think?

Thanks for the help!maybe usb..........popular/or Infared? liitle used?..my  personal approach..........to this problem is (1) what is the storage for......gaming personal use>>could not really CARE -less if it go up the swanee........(2).or for serious use..it all boils down to moving on in the tech/word...or (3) to impress your pals/mate...........just tell em........and save your cash......and dont tell me this 80gig is a maxtor?.......the days of the hard-drive are numbered......its now getting on to twenty-years.........sad really .......well behind the binary times..it maybe posssilbe to have a laser/hard drive//like the cd/dvddisk...powered by the motherboard
Who knows.........get a motorbike and feel the real world...thanks for the reply...go easyYes it is a Maxtor by the way. The cost of flash USB is too high, even though more high tech and faster. It all comes down to economics... The hard drive is economical thats why its still around.

I saw solid state disk drives (memory only) with EMC years ago but way too expensive.

If it were economical why not just have memory. It would all transfer at electronic speeds not mechanical. But way too expensive.

Thanks for the info.
