alright this is the BSoD screen...

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

CHECK foe viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure if it is properly configured and terminated.

run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer

SOUNDS like a stop error.  Next time it comes up, you'll see a bunch of numbers near the beginning of the error.  Write those down and post them in here.  Also, just as Windows starts loading hit the F8 button.  When the menu pops up, see if you can load it in Safe Mode.I hope you have an  anit/virus/malware  program installed  and running in the BACKGROUND"all the time" and  also  make sure it is  updated frequently  and the upgrades installed.
Have you downloaded any  new programs or  software  lately?

ps...  get another  512 stick of ram  when  u can afford it...   your computer will run  MUCH  faster afterwards*If you don't see a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) try to stop the reboot process.

Power up the laptop, tapping the F8 key about once per second (or wait for the keyboard LEDs to flash, then tap the F8 key).  You should see the Windows Advanced Options menu.  Select the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" item to stop the reboot CYCLE.  Hopefully instead of rebooting it will now stop on a BSOD.  If you get BSOD, copy the "exact" error message text and numbers and post here.  This information can be used to search Microsoft Knowledge Base and/or Internet for possible causes and resolution.

You could also try booting into the normal "Safe Mode" or the "Last known good configuration" item from the Windows Advanced Options menu.If anything else fails...

To troubleshoot startup problems

1.  Restart your computer. Immediately after the screen goes blank for the first time, press the F8 key repeatedly. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If the menu does not appear, restart your computer and try again. Use the cursor keys on your keyboard (your mouse will not work) to select Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start.

I don't know how to run CHKDSK because it reboots when windows starts to loading.. and the BSOD comes out before it reboots so please can you help me? im not sure what the problem could be but i found a site

http://hintsandtips.googlepages.com

which has a few usefull guides on how to repair a few common problems in computers

i dont know if it will be of any use but its worth a try..1.  Was there any other data (text message) after the Stop Error numbers?

2.  Go back to the Windows Advanced Options menu screen and see if you can startup using the "Last known good configuration" option.  If you get different error message and/or numbers please post them.

If that doesn't work, return to the Windows Advanced Options menu screen and try the "Safe Mode" option.  If that doesn't work try "Safe Mode with Command Prompt".

If any of the above is successful, post results and we'll move forward from there.alright now i know whats the prob... my laptop did not detect any hard drive.. so i send it to the hp service center.. thank u for all ur kindness helping me... now i wanna lock this topic....
