Answer»

i restarted my computer a while ago and i thought i reinstalled the modem and the driver things FINE it was working fine at first then it started messing up when i got on the internet after a few minutes of me being on and browsing it would restart the desktop or something and i looked to see if the modem was working find and its under COM 2 and my friend says it suppose to be under COM 3 is that right? i have a windows 98 se with dial up PLZ HELP!!!if you go into modem properties in device manager you will see that usually your modem can be com 1,2,3 or 4...sometimes 5 but one of these will be GHOSTED as it will have been self assigned by your pc.

The com port is not a physical port per se but a COMBINATION of the information that the COMMUNICATION aspect of your system uses.well if the com is right then do u know what the problem could be with my internet bc every minute or 2 when im online it will restarts the desktop and go slow for a second??well if the com is right then do u know what the problem could be with my internet bc every minute or 2 when im online it will restarts the desktop and go slow for a second??website screws up......it seems....could virus/spyware - have you run checks for these?
could be a software issue - have you installed anything new recently?
