Solve : Why isn't Java Updating Automatically??

Answer»

It is set to update automatically but it hasn't updated in 11 months. I did the update MANUALLY ok but I wonder what the problem is? Thanks. What version of java is currently installed? Have you gone reinstalling to the latest version?I have Java 6 and just installed update 30.The latest version of the JRE is 7.

Also, almost all "auto-updating" things are utterly useless.Quote from: BC_Programmer on January 14, 2012, 06:43:00 AM

Thought JRE 7 was AVAILABLE only to developers at this time?Quote from: artbuc on January 14, 2012, 04:01:11 AM

You have what you should have. I don't know why it hasn't been automatically updating for you. I'm thinking it might start working right now that you've manually updated to the latest version. Of course, you'll have to wait over a month to see whether this is true.Quote from: artbuc on January 15, 2012, 07:25:02 AM

JRE7 has been released for quite some time.

JRE7 update 2.Quote from: BC_Programmer on January 15, 2012, 08:46:11 AM

JRE7 update 2.

The Java web site checked my PC and said I had the right version - JRE6 30. The latest version is Java 7 Update 2.

Firefox on my laptop says that I have the latest version of firefox. I have version 3.6.24 installed on it. The latest version is 9.

As I noted, any and all "update" software is pretty much useless since you END up having to check it yourself anyway. Meanwhile, it sits in the background doing absolutely nothing useful, EXCEPT - apparently - convincing people that others are making things up about later versions.Oracle makes numerous Java products and finding the right one can be confusing to end users who just need the Java browser plug-in, which is Java 6 Update 30 that artbuc has. Various other Java products are more relevant to developers than end users who just need the browser plug-in. End users can verify their they have Java correctly installed by visiting http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp and clicking the "Verify java version" button.
