Answer» Hi - My security center says my virus protection not found. I KNOW I have avast antivirus free program because I installed it and reinstalled it. Everything was WORKING fine until I did a back up and a restore. As far as I know everything worked except the restore took away all my restore points so I can not do a restore back before my trouble. Any idea of how to fix my virus protection? Thanks BobBob, that is what happens when you do a restore. You have answered your own question. Do not do a restore beyond the point where a program was installed. Yup have to install, uninstall and install again to get it right.
If that does not work, you have do switch to another free virus program. Or buy the program.
Don't gripe about free AV programs. If you do not pay, you get no support. This issue goes away when you have a paid version of the program. To prevent abuse of the free OFFER, they limit your ability to re-install the free software.
Geek-9pm - Thanks for your reply. I understand what you are saying. I use free programs because I don't use the computer for anything important - just e-mail, weather, stock markets, etc. I installed and reinstalled avast antivirus but it is still not recognised. Can you suggest another antivirus program I can use? Thanks BobGeek-9pm - Now everything is fine. I'm not sure what happened but apparently it was your suggestion to uninstall and reinstall. Apparently it took a LITTLE while for things to happen. Thanks to you I am back in business. Bob Most programs need to WRITE to registry when installing. So if you did a system restore to before the said program was installed, it probably won't work properly without a fresh reinstallation.2x3i5x - Thanks for your reply. My problem is now cleared up and I seemed to be OK. Bob
