Answer» Recently, I have been experiencing a User Environment error when Windows 2000 boots. The error indicates that my system will be using a default user profile and cites a corrupt registry as the reason for this change. The system seems to run fine under the default and I do not notice any DIFFERENCE between the ORIGINAL profile and the default. However, the warning dialog box is a bit annoying. I believe what started this problem was using MSCONFIG to eliminate a non-essential program from the startup list. I checked the file online and found it was not necessary to the normal operation of the system. Any idea for a coarse of action to deal with this type of problem?
ThanksPost full error message. What was the startup, you removed? The title bar for the warning is: User Environment The message is: Windows cannot load the users profile but has logged you on as the default profile for the system. DETAIL - The configuration registry database is corrupt.
I was attempting to free up system memory by eliminating non-essential startup items and had deleted NIlauncher from the startup list. The .exe is associated with an application called Net-It Launcher (a web publishing s/w application from Informative Graphics Corporation).
As of now, the computer only has ONE user account (the ADMINISTRATIVE account). There seems to be no difference running the system under the default vs. the original profile (just the annoying warning during acquisition of the user's profile.
