If you still have access to Windows you may do a search of the registry using regedit.exe for the WORDS "product id" or "product key".  If you need help using the Registry Editor, let one of us know.
Regards, DocAlso you might try LOOKING on the back of your computer for a label... This lable SHOULD have your CD Key on it, becuase it is a GENUINE Microsoft Label made for your CD... P.S. (Hey, nice to see you back again Doc)

Belarc Advisor SHOWS the key in w2k so I guess it would work on 98. I'll have to double check the key number when I get home & look at the the real thing. Here's what it shows me with the numbers changed to protect the innocent.
  Microsoft - Windows 2000 Professional 51873-OEM-0000501-99882 (Key: D9SHC-GNMXC-KVJHD-GTWXY-498VB)e
I believe Everest shows it too.bigpaparick......  You can retreive it by D/L   keyfinder V 1.41.    http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml
Keep this app in your toolbox ..
dl65  OK, I checked the real key & Belarc Advisor displays it.  The is no need for the pd key......if you used this route...C:\WINDOWsOPTIONS\CABS........scroll down the list till you come across the regsv32 icon next to it is .....the setup icon.....if this was clicked...it will DISPLAY the pd key.......as well of re-installing win98.
