Answer» Hello, I am trying to re install win 98 on an IBM Thinkpad. I have a boot up DISC and the Win 98 CD. Heres what happens. I load the disc and then install from the cd and when it goes into the actual installing of Win 98 set up this pops up. "Your computer ALREADY has an operating system installed, which cannot be upgraded by this version of setup. You need to obtain the Windows 98 upgrade. Message SU0168" I have just spent the last 4 hours trying to figure this out . Its my 8 year old daughters computer. And lets say that I am about to go nuts if I cant get this working :-/. Do I need to uninstall WIN 98 and then re install it again? If so and how? ANy advice would be greatly appreciated. It starts up in MS DOS. ANd to tell you the truth I really dont know what I am doing except for what the TEch at the her school showed me todo. So any thing would be greatly appreciated. THANK you for your help and advice!!! TammieFrom the message you're receiving it sounds like you're trying to install Win98 over a copy of Win98 SE (Second Edition). It would be helpful to know why you are trying to reinstall i.e. what problems are you experiencing that makes a reinstall necessary, maybe we can help to resolve these issues without a reinstall.
If not we can point you in the right direction for a reformat and reinstall.Hello, I ACTUALLY figured out the problem just now. I didnt ERASE the win directory in the begining so it wouldnt reload it. But now its up and working. Thank you for responding to my tech problem. You all have been more helpful then the locals here who charge an arm and a leg. The see a blonde coming and start having lauging fits...
