Solve : Win NT ... History and Clean?

Answer» Good morning/day/night to you, wherever you may be!
This is my first post on the FORUM, so please bear with me!

Ok, at home I feel fairly comfortable with my XP Home (SP2) package, but at work it's a different matter.

Work System: Win NT SP6a (not admin status), with IE6.0
First thing to note is that I don't work in the country in which I live. This shouldn't matter (Win NT is the same wherever I guess), but I have to have my salary paid into a bank account in the country where I work. I then transfer the money home using the banks online facility. This is part of my problem ...

My computer will be exchanged for a better one soon, and I am accutely aware that when I clear my History and Delete File/Cookies etc in "Internet History", I do not believe that all ... ALL ... items are cleaned out.

Unfortunately, I do not have admin status and I have noticed one of the folders I cannot access (C:Temp) growing steadily in size over a period of months (I can still get to the properties with a right-click).

So to my question, how do I clean out everything about my history and temp files, while not having admin status?

I am TOLD that there may be a way in DOS (if I hit F8 at boot etc).
Unfortunately I have never worked in DOS and I don't even know if it can be done.
How is this done?
(step by step laymans terms please!!!)
What can go wrong?

I am just a little concerned about my personal data when this computer lands in someone else's hands!

My apologies if this has been posted before. I have checked the Forum using the "Search" facility but I drew a blank.

Thanks for you help!

Change the hard-drive and take the old one with you is the best way. But you could also download Eraser where there is an option to make an erasure bootdiskette.

When the bootdiskette has been made just put it in the A: drive start the computer and follow the instructions. It claims to scrub all data off all DRIVES automatically.Hi Mac

Ok, found it here ... http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/ and download here ... http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/download.shtml.

I was going to do something like this (I use cyberscrub at home) but it involves installing any program I want to use - but I don't have admin rights.

If it can't be done by DOS (anybody?), is there an Eraser type of program that does NOT need to be installed?

Thanks in advance.

there is bat file for you a quarter down webpage>http://home.att.net/~gobruen/progs/dos_batch/dos_batch.htmlHey Merlin ...

You really are a GOD!

Thanks for your help with this (and to all who took the time to review my initial request).

The bat is now up and running and it took me from 440MB to 11MB in that Temp folder (and cleared over 400 files).

Thanks again Merlin!

Hello Paul, You should install Eraser on your home machine and make the bootdisk up there. Just pop it into the A: drive and boot. It will wipe everything off the drive, all drives!

So how are you enjoying Europe? Somewhere warm I hope.
Hi again Mac,

I'm gonna do just that!   I fly home tonight (in about 2 hours).   I can't wait to get back to my XP!   (I never thought I'd say that when I first got it!).

Thanks for the advice!

Europe is ok.   I am English anyway, so it's no big deal.   But it was cool when I first started working here 18 months ago ... I work in Switzerland in a city called Basel.   It's right on the border with both France (where I'm living) and Germany.   So I have a lot of variety if you get my drift!

The COLD weather is just starting now, but I look forward to the snow.   I may even start skiing one day!

Are most of you guys and girls in the States?
I've been a few times, both personal (Florida and LA) and business (Bridgeport Connecticut, Tampa Fl).

Thanks again to all.
This place is now firmly in my favourites!

I am still in Belgium Paul, Stuck here it seems. Help!

I am Scottish by my Father.I'm in UK now.
Downloaded eraser, just got to figure out where in the program I can make the disk from!

I was in Brussels a couple of times at the end of last year.  It seemed pretty nice ...
But then again ... the grass is always greener  etc. etc.

I flit between Switz and the UK all the time

Do you work with computers?

I am an Engineer by training, but I also do undercover work for most governments in the Eurasian group which means NATO and our growing number of Allies and Friends.

Working with computers? I am trying to get the pornography off the internet and put the producers out of business. Not a nice bit of ... "business", more like sex-slavery thanks to all of these hol(e)y men.

Probably have to declare Martial Law to get it done though as there is far to much corruption even in high places within politics.

I can recommend XP Professional with SP2 but look carefully at your security and permissions.

They could do with producing a High security batch file to set all of the permissions automatically.

Administrator and SYSTEM are all I allow, and I also use XP-Antispy. Quote

I donot think all those people that work iniquity.. Uhm, I mean, work in the pornographic business consider themselves 'slaves'

Were you kidding or are you actually trying to do that?I am certainly not "kidding". Pornography is a crime to humanity, an amoral wrong.

Prostitution is a LIFE sentance, not a worthwhile job.

Pimping and drugs are not substitutes for Christian morality and no amount of "catholicism" is ever going to put things right here. And how do you try to put them 'out of business'?

As long as there are human beings with MTV morales, there'll be a demand for pornography.
