Solve : win7 pop-up , help needed?

Answer»

i got this pop-up last night and do not know what it means or what to do

it says it will make my pc quicker

[recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]I think it means if you plug your USB device into specified usb ports, you should be able to read/write from it faster.

For example, if you have a USB 2.0 device, and you plug into a usb 1.0 port, usb device will still work fine but at the slower speed of the older port.

That's my take on it, if anybody else got any other ideas... thank you for that , but i need someone to tell me which port ( or other ) to plug it into USB (Universal Serial Buss) has two versions: the older 1.1, 12 megabit per second standard (mbs), and the newer 2.0 capable of 480mbs, Both USB devices, and the interfaces you might plug them into, are either version 1.1 or 2.0.
Windows is telling you: you have a 2.0 device plugged into a 1.1 interface. As a result it'll perform slower than it could. If you were able to plug it into a 2.0 interface then the device would be able to operate at full speed.
The difference between 1.1 and 2.0 is a difference in hardware
If you have a machine with USB 1.1 interfaces the only real alternative, SHORT of upgrading to a newer machine, is to purchase a USB 2.0 add-in card. The USB ports provided by that card will be the higher speed 2.0, while your older USB interfaces on your machine will remain 1.1.
Or try the ports. So as not to see the messagethanks moro, can you tell me where to GO in the pc and find out what i have , harryThe recommendation on the pop up says you are using a USB hub. Are you? If you are, what happens when you by pass the hub? You might use a direct connection for devices that need high speed connections, like an external HD, and use the hub for cameras, printers, etc.Quote from: rthompson80819 on April 06, 2011, 04:37:45 PM

my equipment is in my specs, i have my tower and an external hd and thats it.

sad to say i don't think i have a ubs hub

checked on the WEB, i have no such equipment would it be built into my towerAre you plugged into a front or back USB port? If you are plugged into a front port, try a back port. I've read about some front USB ports that are wired differently than the back ports and act more like a hub than the back ports. Other than that I don't know why windows would think you have a hub if you don't.Quote from: rthompson80819 on April 07, 2011, 06:54:46 PM
I don't know why windows would think you have a hub if you don't.

Most External USB drives are "composite USB devices" which are the same as USB hubs. Basically if something SCREWS up while it's being detected it can be seen as a Hub.

Given Harry's system appears to only have USB 2.0 (Standard Enhanced PCI to USB as opposed to just PCI to USB controller) I think the message can be ignored.

rthompson80819 and BC_Programmer, thank you both , i only use the back ports and the external harddrive is always turned off, so i think i will IGNORE it.
