Answer» I have 2 questions right now,
one, is windows 3.x conciderd abondon-ware, because I don't really wan't to steal it
two, does anyone know where to get it?
I'm building the sweetest computer ever*, so I needed a sweet o/s to go on it, I would put my dos on it, but the floppies have sneakware on them lol
CPU 133 mhz RAM-16 MB HDD-344 MB
* better than any tower you will ever own All so-called "abandonware" remains the copyright of the original owner. Until the owner releases the product into the public domain or in some otherway relinquishes its copyright, the original copyright conditions prevail. Windows 3.1 is still copyright of Microsoft, and installing it without a licence would be a breach of copyright. You may however be able to pick up a licence on eBay, for buttons.
If you want to put DOS on the computer, try >FreeDOS<.
"Sneakerware" was in fact a reference to the way files were shared on floppy DISKS. You walked around the office (in your sneakers) to deliver the disk. Viruses were still just called "viruses" in those days. Theres a PC downstairs in my Office Still Running 3.1,
No one Dares mess with it, for fear of borking it, you can take a copy off it if you want to fly over here and Bring your Floppy'sI'm up for a trip to Ireland! Though I think e-mail/mail would be more, cost effective. I only have like, 60 dollars loleBay and $20 will make you a happy guy! Windows 3.0 is a {7} disk installation. It wouldn't be too much to download, ebay is a better IDEA.
Windows 3.11 is more "network compatible", works better, and does not display the REALLY old logo when you start it. Why do you want Windows 3.x anyways? Its hardly compatible with anything.
I doubt that Microsoft would find out if you downloaded, but the Windows 3.x installation disks are ALWAYS called for when it comes to adding components (like fonts). Just keep in mind, Windows 3.x had a few versions. (I prefer 3.11, its got screensavers and better colors and graphics)I in no way can I say that any of the following download links are trustable. Here's the best I found:
That's it. Please do a virus scan first...
Update: I'm sorry, but none of the links on that page seem to work. Maybe you can find it somewhere else on the site.Link deleted due to copyright infringement. This is not LEGAL to download. Oh. Ok. (bird is stepping on keyboard right now) Will not post that link again. (im so glad that this isnt a "post bad once, and your out " board

Change, delete or move. Lock/Unlock, Hide & Sticky.I have 2 questions Will windows 3.x have a hdd space limit? and will it have a ram limit?
I was just wondering if I had to worry bout that in my upcoming adventrues on windows 3.x series.
Oh I lied, I have another question, is it fairly easy to network with windows 3.x? I have a netork setup right now that is running 2 xp computers and one linux (suSE 6.something)
Thanks,
ViperQ1: Yes , 16bit FAT , Which means very small partitions , less than a Gig Each i think Q2: Yes, I'm pretty sure it supports less than 128 mb perhaps Far less. Q3: Not compared to new windows, you need to manulay assign every file type to a program using Program manager, and i don't know how easy its version of SHELL is to work
i have a copy of windows 3 point somthing, all 6 or 7 disks, i dont think they work anymore though... i dont even know where i put them...
edit: these floppies came with an OLD ibm my sister got from the school in the mid 90's, i was too young to remember when exactly, but she crashed it within two or three months... either that, they came with an old windows 3.x lappy my dad picked up from the goodwill, thing died when i accedentally left a floppy in it... i was too young then to know better...
