I received a DELL laptop as part of my severence from my old job 6 months ago. After receiving activation warningsover the last few weeks, TODAY the OS advised me it is not a valid COPY of Windows. I guess this has something to do with the volume licensing from where it came from.
What options do I have without loosing my applications and data? Sbould I purchase a Windows8 UPGRADE product or a full Windows 8 license? I presume Win7 is no longer available.

What version of Windows is on there at the minute, i.e Home Premium, Pro, Enterprise or Ultimate? If it's Enterprise, you'll need to buy a new OS, because it can only be activated through volume licensing keys as far as I am aware. If it's something else, you have the option to buy a Windows 7 key, if you can find one.
Otherwise, you'll have to go for Windows 8, I would probably go for a full rather than upgrade.Its enterprise. Ok thanks for the help I better buy win8 then.
