1) Is the Windows 7 disk you used an original, retail version or a copy?
2) Did you install SP1?
3) After installing Windows did you install all appropriate drivers, including the chipset driver?
4) Please open Device Manager. Are there any yellow or red symbols?
5) Does the error occur randomly or when you are doing something specific?I don't think Sp1 is installed, i can't update windows now for some reason though, WindowsUpdate_800B0100 I get that error.
1) retail version, 2)I can't seem to update but i may have already installed SP1 3,4)There are yellow symbols but only under the Other devices tab, they are as follows Ethernet Controller, SM Bus Controller, Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller x2 5) This error occurs pretty much randomly sometimes I'll be on the web, sometimes I'll be browsing DOCUMENTS on computer or typing a letter. And sometimes it will just restart by itself when it's just sitting idle on desktop.
Sorry for the late response I appreciate the quick help You need to download and install the correct chipset driver for your system. If it's a laptop, get the driver from the website of the laptop manufacturer.
After you've done that, make sure you have SP1 installed (Control Panel - System Properties - it will tell you the version of W7 you are running). If it's not installed and if you can't get it through Windows Update, download and install the standalone update version. As I was going to update the chipset my computer BSOD again and now it won't boot up. Here is what I get.
EDIT: It is not a laptop it is a custom built desktop. Motherboard is a Gigabyte H81M-HD3
[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]That HDD may be failing....how old is it ? ? DLoad and run the Free diagnostics from the HDD manuf. site...
Follow their guide for creating a bootable CD...and run the Long test. This computer isn't more than 3 months old. Been having problems since the build now that I think about it. I'll run the test and get back here asap. Thanks.
EDIT: Windows is actually installed onto an SSD for that computerDouble check all your internal connections with ALL power unplugged...The error you are getting can be caused by anything from a damaged MBR to a major hardware failure. After doing as patio suggests above, the first thing I suggest is that you check the ram: download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso BURNING utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.
Second thing is to download the dos level diagnostic utility from the website of your hd manufacturer, burn it to disc, boot to it and run it.
And you will still need to install the chipset driver when you are able TOI believe the lack of proper chipset drivers...after re-reading this are causing the issue... They are neccessary...especially with an SSD HDD...So i have been searching all over for a driver for my SSD but it doesn't seem to have one its a PNY SSD, I think i'll have to reformat and reinstall windows now because i can't even login for more than a few minutes before i get BSOD and restartHard drives do not require drivers. You just need the correct chipset driver.Alright after fresh install of windows 7 I am still getting frequent BSOD. I found the chipset drivers for my motherboard and installed them and to no avail still.. could this be a cause of faulty hardware? If so what could be not working or dieing on me
