Answer» I am having this problem with two of my laptop computers. I cannot get the Windows Updates to install. It stays at 0% installed, and never gets past that.
I have tried all the suggestions that I could find from the Microsoft support forums, to no avail.
I recently tried System Mechanic on one of them, and it shows no updates have ever been downloaded (computer is 2 years old and of course I'd been doing updates), and it will not DOWNLOAD any updates now. Agh. So frustrating.
I tried to do a system restore on this one just now, and it would not complete the restore that I attempted.
Help.First of all, from the information you gave there is no quick easy fix for the problem as you describe it. It will help if you provide the name and model of the laptop. Also, do you have any backups? What kind of Anti-Virus do you use? Geek - Why would the name and model of the laptop help with this ISSUE? And since the laptop has never updated, why would backups be helpful?
Suzan - unfortunately, GIVEN the fact you've tried the "normal" solutions I'd suggest your best bet is a clean install. Backup anything you need to keep and if you have a Windows DVD format the drive and reinstall from scratch (remember to download and install all drivers from the website of the laptop manufacturer). If not, you can use the recovery partition on the laptop.MS Tech Support is a FREE phone call...have you tried that ?
They can walk you thru it...What is a phone number for MS tech support. Would try that before doing a total reinstall of Windows.
What is funny is that when I look at update history, it does show updates-from a year ago. But on the main update SCREEN, it says it has never been updated. This is a Toshiba Satellite L750-A7280 running AVG free anti-virus
I've done all the virus, malware scans so I am confident that it is not that.
Thank you.Here Ya Go...Thank you!
