Hi everybody. I recently purchased a NEW HP Pavilion Elite 210 and it came with Windows 7 Home installed. So far everything has worked well. However, I'm using the Microsoft Office that was installed on my older computer, which is Office 2003. I want to use the Windows 7 speech recognition tool, but it does not seem to be working correctly for me.

I have successfully completed "Set up my microphone", "improve voice recognition", and the TUTORIAL. Everything worked fine, the computer understood me and completed all my commands inside the tutorial. However, when I went to use it in Microsoft Word 2003, the speech recognition BAR will show what I said, but it will not insert my words into Microsoft Word 2003. I began to think maybe there was a compatibility issue. However, the speech tool doesn't seem to work properly outside of Office programs either. For example, I should be able to say "Open Wordpad" and the Windows 7 edition of Wordpad, should open. However, instead I will just see the words "open wordpad" in the speech bar. In addition, after using my mouse to open wordpad, I'll try to dictate. Again, the same thing happens and what I dictate appears in the speech bar, but is not inserted into the program.

I'm really confused. My first idea that it was a compatibility problem may still be correct. However, if that was the case, wouldn't it work fine when I use in outside of Office 2003 situations? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you right click on the speech bar, a menu appears. Under the "options" tab there are 4 available selections:
--Play audible Feedback
--Rum at start-up
--Speak text in correction dialog
--Enable dictations scratchpad

I currently have the 1st and 4th options selected only. At one point I unclicked the last option (about the scratchpad) but it didn't seem to make a difference.
