Solve : Windows 7 starter- no admin set but asking for password? |
|
Answer» Thanks in advance. My son has an INSPIRON mini-10v with Windows 7 starter installed. There are 2 accounts set up. Unfortunately, both are as standard users. I'm trying to make some changes, but I get a user account box saying"Type administrator password and click'Yes' ". We have tried EVERY password we KNOW, to no avail. Since it's fairly new, I was just going to do a re-install. How do you do that with no cd slot, and without the security CLEARANCE to download and install anything? As you have tried every password you can think of, have you tried just pressing the enter button when it asks you for a password and see what happens.http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS304US305&q=forgot+administrator+passwordI have tried hitting enter, but to no avail. I can download programs but I cannot install them without administrator privileges. I assume almost every program will require admin privilege.... Okay, now I don't understand what you're doing. Are you getting into the user account? If so, is it an admin account? And if it is, when do you get that message?I have two users listed when I turn on the netbook. Both are listed as "standard users" when I look at the account info. My original project was to remove McAfee and install AVG. I can download, but I am prompted to"Enter an administrator password and click 'yes", before installing the program. No matter what I have typed as password so far, the 'yes' button does not come to the foreground (remains 'unclickable'). Dell suggests SENDING it in to be repaired or buying an external optical drive to reinstall Windows 7 starter.=]Enable Admin Account in Win7Thanks!! I'll give that a shot and post the results!!! |
