Answer» hello there I am running windows 7 32bit home edition on my laptop and my laptop does not have a writable cd rom with it so I bought an external cd burner everything was fine for about a week burned NICE cd's and now as of 5/20 yesterday I tried to burn cd but nothing works. external burner is fine tested it on my friends comp works fine. tried to burn using windows explorer nothing, tried wmp12 nothing, tried realplayer nothing, tried third party cd burning software nothing will burn on my comp. I always get the error saying cannot finish burn process something went wrong. I have tried this. tried reinstalling wmp12 tried reinstalling every driver tried reinstalling codec packs tried DIFFERENT makers of cd-rw disks tried system restore with all of this said the burning process will start and it will start to write but it just cant finish anything I try to burn whatever software I try does not finish and burning is incomplete. I have also went threw about a dozen disks already because the burn process messes up the cd-rw disk and makes unusable
so if anyone can help with this please help me I am about to take a baseball bat to my comp
thanks,ckch03Are the disks that the burn is failing on the same brand as the ones that were successful? Have you tried a different brand of disks?yes I have tried different makers of cd's also let me clarify a bit I can burn audio only cannot burn data cd or videoTry a third party burning app...CDBurnerXPro is Free...
Also the cd-rw's are not ruined...they can be formatted and re-used.ok heres the deal please read my question more carefully. if you noticed in my question is says I have tried third party software and also I have tried Roxio and nero which are very good burning software and there is still no burning data and video as of yet. I can burn music but that's it. the install of this windows 7 is about a year ago and it is a genuine oem install. also I have tried to reformat the disks and guess what I cant because nothing will read them its like they have been locked or something like anyway that's the dealThen i suspect your new burner is defective...Any CHANCE you could borrow another burner to try? Can the drive read other disks OK? If it has trouble reading disks then I would suggest that you clean the lens on the drive. It may be that Patio is right and that your new drive has failed.ok my external burner works perfect.
my external reads just fine
my external plays cd's and dvd's perfect
it is not my external burner that's the PROBLEM
my problem now exists back in windows 7 and something is missing in windows 7 that is preventing me to burn cd's.
again it will start to burn but will not finish the burn. I get the error message that the burning process encountered a problem and was unable to finish.
so now I am at the end of my rope and I am about to turn to a complete reinstall of windows and lose a lot in the process because no one can figure this out.
I will entertain a few more ideas before I do this. could there be a missing video codec or video driver that's failed. I am not sure I have already gone through all my drivers and all are up to date and so is my windows updates.
this is my last plee for helpThere are separate lasers for reading (playing) or writing (burning). Do you understand?no dahThis may work.
Please download and run MS Fix-it from here. Click on Visit our solution center and click the Windows icon. Scroll down and click to run the Click to fix problems with CD or DVD drives that can't read or write.Quote . I have also went threw about a dozen disks already because the burn process messes up the cd-rw disk and makes unusable How about using CD-R discs instead? If fixing the software side doesn't help, then it looks like the issue is more of a hardware problem. Can you bring it back to the shop where you bought it and have it tested there? Or can you try using this burner to another computer. if it doesn't work then its already confirmed that you have a hardware problem.
