Answer» Hi all,
I have have my WINDOWS XP connected to a ADSL router, and my old machine has Linux Red Hat installed on it. I would like to network the two for file sharing.
I have no IDEA where to START :-/
Could anyone help? any suggetions? maybe you have the same setup. If so, could you tell me how you did it. I did a quick search on google, but unfortunately, I could'nt find what I was looking for. What do you want to do? If you want to share FILES between the two computers, you need Samba. Google it.There's a fairly decent SMB readme here.Thanx Backdated, good link.
yeah, I know about SAMBA, I THOUGHT this was a little too difficult for me at present.... I'm new to Linux.
Thanx anyway. It's not quite as hard as it seems; we can talk you through it. Do you have Samba installed on your Linux box? Are you able to locate and edit smb.conf? If you download the Xandros community edition Samba will be set up automatically. If you are sticking with RedHat you need to learn about Samba in a little more detail anyway.
