Solve : Windows could not start message?

Answer»

Hello everybody, Craig here my first post.

My PC was a bit slow so I decided to run Ewido in safe boot mode. Problem I am having is that it will not boot at all now as the following screen comes up "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : system32\DRIVERS\pci.sys

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows SETUP using the original Setup CD-Rom
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair"

I stuck in the CD and nothing happens, is this because I am in safe boot? Anyone help please?

I have XP pro service pack 2

All you did was put in the CD?  Did you try PUTTING in the CD and then rebooting?  I believe that's what Windows wants you to do.

Try having a read here...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330181Also, you'll probably want to ENTER the BIOS and CHANGE the boot order so your computer boots from CD-ROM first.

If you don't know how to enter the BIOS, hopefully this link will help.  Once you're in there, you'll want to enter the Boot Order and move CD-ROM to the top of the list.  Generally, this is done with the +/- keys, but it varies from computer to computer.  When in BIOS, hitting F1 will bring up a little help menu that will kinda tell you how to navigate.
