Answer» :-? I have a cable modem and windows xp. I have had this modem for almost a year with no problems until recently. I tried using TURBO Tax and it will not recognize my INTERNET connection even though it is running all the time. I made sure my internet connection was setup in Turbo Tax correctly. At FIRST I thought it was the Turbo Tax program. But, when I went to use the Help and Suppport from my computer it also will not recognize the internet connection. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to fix this? I appreciate all the help I can get.
Toni Look in Control Panel/System/Device Manager and make sure the ethernet adapter is recognized correctly.
The run Internet Connection Wizard - Program Files/Internet Explorer/Connection Wizard/Inetwiz and choose LAN rather than modem and take the default for DHCP connection (the first choice)
Does that fix it? Can you access the internet?
You didn't bother to specify the operating system, service pack, etc,. etc. That has happened to me, too. Cable told me to turn-off the firewall for 12 hours and reconnect. They SAY the firewall tries to be in control and won't allow the internet. That solution worked for me.
