Answer» Okay this is gonna be kinda long so stay with me on this one. Lately I had problems connecting to the internet which has obviously been solved. The problem had been with clearing the DNS cache and after trying basic setting alterations and system restore in safe mode. Nothing worked. So I decided to try and reinstall the modem driver which would hopefully restore the required files and settings to allow internet access. This seemingly worked at correcting the fault in the network connection. But I was LEFT with a problem with WINDOWS explorer that I have recently DISCOVERED. Every time I attemp to right click or delete any file or folder it freezes and comes up with the error report. After I send or don't send the error report the window closes and explorer.exe reboots. This happens everytime and is a big problem. Please help.
- PeteWhat protection are you using, and do you have a real Windows CD if needed? How much free space on the drive?GX1_Man: umm.. I'm using Zonealarm, YES I do have a real Windows CD and the drive's capacity is 40 GB and there is 24 GB free.Is ZA your only protection program ? ?
If so you may want to beef up your security as it is a firewall but not much else...
AVG Free Spybot AdAware AVG Anti-Spyware CCleaner
All the above are free, so no reason not to add them.Patio: No Zonealarm is not my only protection program. Just my firewall as you mentioned. I also have anti-virus and anti-spyware programs like the ones you listed. The problem doesn't SEEM viral... But I'm not sure. Thank-you.if you ave just installed your os there is a problem in your installer. There are some files missing. another source is that your explorer is inflicted with a virus that causes the explorer to send reports to microsoft. by the way are you using a license version of os?Steelfaith: My Operating System was installed a fair while ago and this aspect has previously been funtioning as it should. The OS is licenced and came with the computer. I'll try and run some anti-virus programs in safe mode and see what turns up. But as I said before the problem doesn't seem viral. Thanks for the insight, there may indeed be some files missing.Peter if your OS is Win2K or newer to repair system files go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...have your OS CD handy as it will probably ask for it...Thanks Patio I'll give it a try.
