I need big help. I had just formated my 2000 compaq that was running windows 98 and first TRIED running windows xp just to see what would happen. When I did this, I received a fatal error about HALF way into the installation. Now, Instead of going back to dos when i restart the computer, it loads windows xp and gives me the fatal error right away!
-How can I get back to Dos?
Please help if you canWell, unfortunately, I can not help you with this issue, but I do have some advice for the future... NEVER just try to install something JUST to see what will happen... Not a good idea...

Do you have a full cd version of Win 98 or Win XP?
Do you have a floppy (3-1/2") drive?
Do you know how to generate a bootdisk from the download at Bootdisk.com?
Do you have copies of the drivers you need?
What Anti Virus PROG do you have access to?

What else - can't remember - but please give just a little more info...

• Did you write the error message down? or do you remember at least some of what the error said?

• Did you choose to upgrade or did you choose a clean install when you installed XP?
