Solve : Windows Installer Problem?

Answer»

HP Pavilion,Windows XP home upgraded to professional248MB Ram40GB Hard drive 2.6 GHz thingy(I read the post) anyway THING is
when I open Word, I get a Windows Installer dialogue box saying - The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available.Insert Norton Antivirus 2006 disk & click ok(previously I had problems with Norton and uninstalled it (eventualy)even tho' it didn't run out untill Jan07,and previous to that Norton would kick in to do a virus check on Word before I opened it) to cut a long story shortish, I click on cancel and I get a Preparing to install dialogue box for about 2 /3 secs. Then I get the Windows Installer dialogue box again saying.....what it said before, so I press cancel again and again I get Preparing to Install etc. etc.
This goes on 3/4/5 or even 6 times before eventually Word opens, now this is a pain at the best of times but as I often open Word and Word docs. a number of times this is doing my head in, I think( don't really know ) that Word is asking the non existent Norton Antivirus to check word before opening, Question is ( if I'm right, and I wouldn't bet on that ) How do I tell Word not to ask for an Antivirus check before opening ( and if I'm wrong , what else do I do )

Alan <><  I have exactly the same problem with Word except the culpret is Office 2000. I started to reinstall Office and couldn't find my cd case with the # on it so I terminated the install.  When I try to open Word I go through 5 or 6 clicks and messages like "Windows Installer - BEGINNING to install".  Anyway I would like to know how to stop it. Alexman see the replies in your original THREAD...

aliogg travel to Symantec's site and do a search for norton removal tools ...there are 3 of them now depending on what version you are running. Don't get frustrated they are hard to find. It's almost as if Norton's doesn't want people to be able to remove it.

Now DLoad and install AVG Free from Grisoft...schedule it to grab updates and scan your machine daily (options built into the program ) and you should be good to go.

Wonder how much more responsive that machine is now he said to himself...
