Solve : windows me help?

Answer»

I went into the garage an took my old PC running ME to work with me to play games on during the slow time of year. After loading several games in it I incurred a problem with the operating SYSTEM.

My problem is I have the original boot CD that came with my PC when it was new but lost the sleeve to it with the numbers on it. Is there a way to explore the CD to retrieve the numbers before I crash the PC?

Everytime I reformatted my windows 98 PC it would ask me for the serial numbers before it would format, and am afraid it will happen again.

Or, if I just reinstall the software through the manufactures CD, would I not need this info to proceed?

Thank You in advance for any HELP on this matter.Quote

Registration key is not on CD, it's on your computer.
You may try to use Magical Jelly BEAN Keyfinder: http://www.shivaranjan.com/2006/09/18/how-to-find-and-change-windows-product-key-and-registration-information/
to retrieve it.

What CDs do you have? Windows CD? Recovery CD? Thank you for the reply. The CD I have is the Recovery CD. I downloaded to a floppy the Magic Jelly Bean and brought it to work and found the #'s I requested.

The reason I was hoping to get the #'s from the CD is because when I got this computer from a place I worked in the past there were a total of 3 PCs all the same(Compaq) running Windows ME.

If I have the Recovery disc for the WRONG Comp ac will the serial #'s still work?

Thank you,

No, because Recovery CD will work only on the machine for which it was created.
You said, that you have original Recovery CD, but the sleeve is missing, so you may give it a shot. In worst case scenario, it just won't work. Nothing to lose.
