Answer» Hi, I was wondering if someone could help.
I'm running Windows XP Home Edition and recently bought an mp3 player that needs to work with Windows Media Player 10. I had WMP 11 so uninstalled it, so it went back to the version that came with my computer which is Windows Media Player 9. When trying to install Windows Media Player 10, it kept saying that it isn't compatible with my version of windows which I know for a FACT is not true because I had been running it for years before upgrading to 11.
Why is it saying this and what can I do? Windows Media Player 10 was MADE for XP yet its saying it isn't even compatible!
Please reply as I am getting very, very frustrated.
ThanksFirstly, and MP3 player that says its compatible with Windows Media Player 10 (WMP), is compatible with WMP 11...
SECONDLY, go into your Control Panel Start>Settings>Control Panel
Then go to Add/Remove programs
Then click the "Windows Components" tab
And find Windows Media Player (It might be under accessories)
Deselect it (if its already selected), and select it again. Click OK or Apply. Be prepared to put in your Windows installation disk. (If your computer only came with a restore CD, then you probably wont need the install disk)
This should restore it back.
I've tried this and it made no difference.
The PROBLEM isn't that Windows Media Player itself isn't working as Windows Media Player 9 is running fine, and Windows Media Player 11 runs fine aswell. The problem is that Windows Media Player 10 won't install because it comes up with this message:
"This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows."
which is completely untrue.
The reason I need WMP10 is because it's the only Windows Media that works with the Philips GoGear plugin for PICTURE syncing, as WMP11 seems syncs the pictures, but it just doesnt work. I've found all over the internet on forums like this that it only works with WMP10, but when I try to install 10, it says it doesnt work with Xp....
any suggestions why that might be?Just to clarify:
The directions I gave you (above) does not run the installer that you download from the internet. It uses the Windows XP Windows Component Installer
This installer uses a different installation technique. (More of forces the files it needs into place)
Are you using any software that changes the Windows User Interface? (eg: Windows Blinds) If so, try uninstalling it. There is a possibility that it could have changes some information relating to the Windows Version Test.
Other than that, I WOULD blame file corruption. Click Start> Run type sfc /scannow
Be sure you have your Windows XP installation disk.
