Solve : Windows - Need Immediate Help! (!)?

Answer»

Ok, so I wanted to use one of my dads test PC's in order to run some old 2K and XP games, when I turned it on, it came up with the Windows File Protection message, I never seen it before, though last night I seen him exchanging a few disks in the CD-ROM. Im using this PC right now so the keyboards kinda crappy and its hard to type on it. :/

But anyways this is one of my dads PCs and he'll surely be really angered if he FINDS out one his hospital/friends PC's hes suposed to repair is mecked up... So I need help as soon as possible, n like I said, Im afraid to restart, because I think it might not boot again... What should I do?
this is windows XP Sp3.

Heres a pic of my situation...

Thanks. Oh and this is not my PC, like I said, nor do we even own it so please do not try to blame me for copyright or anything stupid, because those apps I did not install anyways... whatever.

Like I said, I need help bad. Please reply as soon as possible if you can... appreciate! You normally get that when a 3rd party application replaces a Microsoft file with its own. For example some defrag programs will replace part of the Windows files so you can setup a schedule or some thing that windows doesn't offer.

You may have triggered the file check during your game install. In most cases you can click cancel and move on...but you should know what files were replaced and why.

I would suggest that you click on the more information button and post what it says. Maybe we can get an idea as to what happened.

Also, just a little advice.

How many times have you 'used your dad's pc' only to find that something has happened which you don't know how to fix. I think the thing that you really need to learn is..............Leave your dads stuff alone!! Quote from: reddevilggg on September 30, 2010, 04:24:12 PM

Alright then I know. But I was afraid that if I turn it off it would fail to boot up because the files would be corrupted... Hmmm
And like I said, I only used it to play an old game I couldn't play on Windows 7, tried compatibility mode and everything. Only worked on XP, it was one of the computers he picked up from somewhere, looked like they had been thrown out, but he took them and repaired them and plans on selling them to some poor family or whatever such in need.

Anyways, They used to Come with Microsoft Windows 2K Professional (As seen on the sticker), they had a Pentium 3. .
They were quite old computers yes, but I loved to enjoy such classic games, like C&C (Command & Conquer) Generals, GZ, NFSMW, etc..

So yeah, I was just bored that morning and I wanted to enjoy a classic century game, but I really least expected that to happen... the message box and all... So yeah, I know its weird right... :/ lol

Also, don't you slouchers trollin' the net even THINK on getting those precious CD keys here. Quote from: deargodpleasehelp on September 30, 2010, 05:22:12 PM

We have very different definitions of "classic" heh. And... all of those games work fine on My win7 install (?).

Like you said, he was going around with discs. Probably looking for the proper disk to make that go away.

It's probably safe to shut it down when this happens- usually. Since you booted it fine up to that point That's almost certain.

WELL,If your willing to use your dads stuff, without permission, and run the risk of 'messing it up' for the sake of playing a game, then its no wonder he gets angry. I know, only to well, that this is a domestic issue (and probably an issue of respect), but IMHO i think you need to prioritize whats important.......playing a game or your dads wrath.  Quote from: reddevilggg on October 01, 2010, 04:59:41 AM

Well of course things would have to happen due to a user error or even user-caused, because there's never really been a problem where the user hasn't done anything and it just happens.

No problem happens by itself anyhow, so it just goes to prove sometimes nobody is perfect.

And of course some problems can be caused by a user accident but that's OKAY. Also you guys are really starting to tick me off. No offense, sorry for the language but can't you guys quit being so rude and be a bit more POLITE to the users around you? You ACT like your talking to a bot or something... Sorry if I offended anyone.

It's amazing how many of your threads end up in controversy. Then again, maybe not so amazing.
