Answer» does ANYBODY know of some software that i can use to benchmark the performance of my OS so when i make changes i can re run it to see if it has improved or by % improvement
a google dosnt seem to turn much up
thanks in advanceWhat kind of performance do you want to measure? And what kind of changes are you going to make?im looking to get a reading for things like page opening speed startup shut down speeds and sort of benchmark it
i do a lot of tinkering and work on friends pc's - cleanups spyware removal etc and it would be good to get a before and after bench mark to SATISFY myself and them of the actual performance improvementPage opening speed is very SUBJECTIVE. Best thing to measure that is a stopwatch, but remember you'll need to take into account the actual pages, NET speed, background activity, and cache. Boot times again can be measured with a stopwatch, or programs such as Bootvis. Thing is, with cleanups, a lot of the time the actual performance isn't affected. By "actual performance" I mean things like frames per second in gaming, number crunching, etc, so it's hard to benchmark. I THINK boot times, program load times and shutdown speeds are the best indicators of improvements in these cases, and the best way to do it would be to get the computer's owner to observe before and after, and measure the time too. Someone else may have some better suggestions, though - I'm not really into benchmarking things myself, if it works for me it's fine, heh.ive actually just found a program in vista reliability and performance monitor ( type perform in the run box) and it actually seems to have quite a bit of information, it actually shows the reliabilit of my machine going down over the last month
looks like it will take a while to work it all out but hopefully it might do the job
still open to any other suggestions though
