Solve : Windows protection error message? |
|
Answer» I have an older Gateway 2000 desktop with Windows 98 that works just fine, once I get it up and running. However, getting it there is an involved process for no apparent reason. When I turn the computer on, it boots all the way to the Windows logo page, then gives me a DOS message that reads: "Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer." So I turn if off, WAIT a few seconds and turn it back on. Windows then says it will start up in safe mode, which I OKAY. After it boots in safe mode, I go to Start > SHUTDOWN > Restart. It then reboots in Windows 98 and everything works normally until I shut down again. If I PUT it in Standby, it comes back and continues to work well; but Shutdown > Shutdown turns it off, which means I face the process described above to get back up and running. Since this is my "alternative" computer (I use a Dell laptop with Windows XP most of the time), I don't feel a lot of URGENCY about this problem. But I would like to have the computer available without the hassle. Thoughts? |
